Walt was raised in the north-central B.C. area. Walt earned a Bachelor of Education degree from U.B.C. and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Victoria. Walt then chose to return to the Prince George area, and articled with Wilson King LLP. Walt was called to the bar in 1996 and now practices primarily in the areas of Commercial and Residential Real Estate Law, Municipal law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Wills & Estates and Forestry Law.

Walt is a sessional instructor for a Local Government Law course offered through the Political Science faculty at the University of Northern British Columbia. Walt has also been a member of the Prince George Yellowhead Rotary Club, and has represented the firm at meetings of the Prince George Town Centre Business Association. In his personal time, Walt enjoys spending time with his family, keeping fit, and coaching youth sports teams.
